Neo Blitz

First Market Game

Neo Blitz is my first game that actually made it to market! I learned a lot doing this project, from marketing to third party server hosting. Due to the third party servers being shut down, a lot of the features are no longer working. The game is now delisted due to these reasons.

Level Design

Usually I follow a simple pipeline for designing levels.

  • Grab imagery and themes for level or section.
  • Mock up physically or digitally the outline for the level, containing themes that may be reminiscent throughout
  • Figure out what mechanics need to be introduced, and fill in any needed introductions.
    • Important: Ensure the player is shown or led and not just told.
  • Fill out the level with obstacles, in this case a color coded xcel sheet.
  • Decorate and add in extra visuals.

Afterwards, it’s tweaking to ensure the difficulty is right for the level, and on beat.

Artist Friendly Editors

This was one of the first projects I got to learn what an editor and system could be, more importantly what it means to be artist friendly. Those that program could easily understand it, but is it understandable and usable from a non-programmers point of view. With this in mind, every event the team created in Koreographer was read by a manager that bridged ascii art to create the obstacles for the game.

  • Brainstormed, white boxed and created a system off of a seven digit code per event for obstacle creation.
  • Utilizing additional layers to keep effects manageable.
  • Using curves within the editor to allow lighting, screen curving and other effects to vibe to the music.

Managing The Team

From weekly meetups, goals and mile stones. I helped record everything down, create meeting agendas and bridge from one team to another. Including contacting and contracts for reaching out to musicians that the team enjoyed and wanted to create levels for. Due to the small team I also filled the shoes of HR, helping out with any disputes that went on and hiring/firing people for the team.
